Family law encompasses legal matters pertaining to:

  1. marriage

  2. children

  3. other relatives

  4. romantic partners

Family Law contractual agreements for people in relationships:

  1. pre-nuptial agreements (for couples about to get married)

  2. post-nuptial agreements (for married couples)

  3. cohabitation agreements, partnership agreements, co-parenting agreements (for unmarried couples who plan to stay unmarried)

  4. separation agreements (for couples who have broken up or plan to)

Different approaches to divorce:

  1. uncontested

  2. collaborative

  3. contested/litigated/traditional

These approaches can be fluid. A client can come to me with a divorce that began as a contested, adversarial divorce, and after a successful mediation, husband and wife could end up working out the property issues and the divorce ends up as uncontested.

Common legal disputes between parents about children often involve:

  1. child custody

  2. child visitation

  3. child support enforcement

These cases about children between parents, called SAPCRs in Texas, can happen after married parents divorce and need changes to the parts of their divorce decree that relate to the kids or when unmarried parents need orders to sort out their rights vis-à-vis their children.

Other areas of family law:

  1. adoption law

  2. reproductive law (gestational law/surrogacy law)

  3. LGBT family law

  4. dependency law (CPS cases)

If you find yourself with a family law matter not specifically addressed on any individual page, feel free to contact my office and set up a consultation to tell me about it. I can handle other matters other than those specifically listed.
